GI GENOA GI Effects®Comprehensive Profile
(Gastrointestinal Test)

  • Chronic constipation, diarrhea, abdominal discomfort and bloating are often placed in the category of  "IBS"; or irritable bowel syndrome (Irritable Bowel Syndrome).

  • Sometimes there are underlying causes of Irritable Bowel Syndrome that are not detected by conventional tests.

  • Food allergies, malabsorption, parasites, fungi, bacterial imbalances, and inflammation can all contribute to Irritable Bowel Syndrome.

Stool Analysis - (Gastro Intestinal Effects Comprehensive Stool Profile)

- Provides information about inflammation, and how you digest and absorb the food you eat. In addition, the profile offers a detailed description related to the balance of healthy and unhealthy fungi, parasites and bacteria that live in our large intestine.

- This bacterial population is called the microbiome. Many patients do not realize that, in addition to gastrointestinal complaints, systemic diseases can be linked to the gastrointestinal tract.

- By improving the health of your gut, you can improve your overall health.

There is no health without gut health

The Gastrointestinal Effects Profile Stool Test is the most comprehensive test available for immediate insight into gastrointestinal health management.

It uses state-of-the-art technologies and biomarkers to provide valuable information on intestinal function, inflammation and the intestinal microbiome.

The report presents the results in a novel assessment scale that helps with therapeutic recommendations to prioritize treatment according to the test findings.

Biomarkers are grouped and scored in 5 main areas related to gastrointestinal function.

Why is the test important and unique? GI Effects

  • It is a complete test of intestinal health, and determines the reason for the gastrointestinal discomfort.

  • It uses a combination of methods:PCR, culture, and microscopic evaluation to ensure that each and every organism is identified.

  • recover living organisms (yeast and bacteria) for susceptibility testing and improved treatment options.

The GI Effects test in feces can reveal important information about the root of many gastrointestinal problems such as gas, bloating, indigestion, abdominal pain, diarrhea and constipation. This stool test uses biomarkers such as fecal calprotectin to differentiate between Inflammatory Bowel Disease and Irritable Bowel Syndrome. Additionally, this test can be used to evaluate patients with a medical history suggestive of gastrointestinal infection or dysbiosis.

The biomarkers of the GI Effects test

What Advantage Does the Profile Offer Compared to Other Diagnostics?
A structured fecal biomarker panel offers the advantage of assessing multiple functional areas that may be contributing to symptoms. For example, diarrhea could stem from multiple causes including pancreatic exocrine insufficiency, inflammation, food allergies, or the presence of a pathogenic or potentially pathogenic organism. A positive result on one or more fecal biomarker tests may guide therapy, either by suggesting a treatable alternative diagnosis or by eliminating a diagnosis from further consideration. The latter allows individualized targeted treatment to be redirected to more likely diagnoses.

GI Effects® represents the best technical platform available to assess the gut microbiome, combining:

  • 16S rRNA gene polymerase chain reaction (PCR) amplification technique for anaerobic commensal bacteria

  • Matrix Assisted Laser Desorption Ionization Time-of-Flight Mass Spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS) technology for limitless bacterial and fungal species identification via culture

  • Gold standard microscopic ova and parasite (O&P) detection

  • Real-time PCR for the identification of 6 common parasites

  • Next-Generation DNA sequencing for Blastocystis spp.

The test report findings are synthesized into a results overview that helps the clinician to prioritize findings with functional imbalance scores and therapeutic support options. Furthermore, Genova summarizes the status of the patient's commensal bacteria levels with clinically actionable data.

What Can Clinicians and Patients Expect from GI Effects Comprehensive Profile Stool Testing?

The GI Effects Stool Profile biomarkers provide comprehensive information for the development of strategic interventions. Symptoms often improve as identified functional imbalances and inadequacies become normalized through targeted dietary, lifestyle, and supplementation therapeutics.

The biomarkers of this test reflect 3 main functions of intestinal health grouped in the DIM format (Digestion / absorption, Inflammation / Immunology, and Gut Microbiome)

Digestion/Absorption:

  • Pancreatic Elastase-1is a marker of pancreatic function

  • Protein Breakdown Products  are markers of undigested protein reaching the colon

  • fecal fatit is a marker of fat breakdown and absorption.

Inflammation/Immunology:

  • Calprotectinit is a marker of neutrophil-driven inflammation.   As it is abundantly produced at sites of inflammation, this biomarker has been clinically proven to be useful in differentiating between Inflammatory Bowel Disease and irritable Bowel Syndrome.

  • Eosinophil Protein X is a marker of inflammation and allergic response driven by neutrophils

  • Fecal Secretion IgA is a marker of intestinal secretion immunity and protective function

  • Fecal Occult Blood detects hidden blood; Fecal immunochemical testing has been recommended by the American Gastroenterological Association as the preferred noninvasive test for colorectal cancer screening.

Gut Microbiome:

  • Metabolic Indicators, including short-chain fatty acids and beta-glucuronidase, demonstrate specific and vital metabolic functions performed by the microbiota.

  •  commensal bacteria demonstrate the composition and relative abundance of intestinal organisms.bMore than 95% of commensal intestinal organisms are anaerobic and are difficult to recover by traditional (aerobic) culture techniques. The GI Effects test evaluates a set of 24 genera/species that are assigned to 7 phyla

  • Bacterial and mycological cultures demonstrate the presence of specific beneficial and harmful organisms.

  • Bacterial and mycological sensitivities are provided for pathogenic or potentially pathogenic organisms that have been cultured. The report includes effective prescriptive and natural agents.

  • Parasitology includes comprehensive testing for all parasites in each requested parasitology exam. The GI Effects test provides microscopic examination of fecal samples for ova and parasites (O&P), the gold standard for diagnosis of many parasites.

  • Six polymerase chain reaction (PCR) targets detect common protozoan parasites, including Blastocystis spp., Cryptosporidium parvum/hominis, Cyclospora cayetanensis, Dientamoeba fragilis, Entamoeba histolytica, and Giardia. Organism PCR is emerging as a highly sensitive method for the detection of infectious organisms.

Additional biomarkers available:

  • Campylobacter

  • Clostridium difficile

  • Escherichia coli

  • fecal lactoferrin

  • Helicobacter pylori

  • zonulin family peptide

  • KOH preparation for yeast
